Activities

Clothesline Math from the Math Projects Journal One indicator from AN02 is ""Order a set of irrational numbers on a number line". A clothesline would be a perfect activity for this. Set up a clothesline across the classroom to represent a number line. As a class, establish several benchmarks. Each student will be given a card with an expression of an irrational value. He or she will pin the card along the number line, and should then be able to explain why he or she placed the card in that position. You could also do this with postit notes stuck to the whiteboard.
Exponents Spoons Game from Tina Palmer Use a special deck of cards with exponential expressions on them. Students use these cards to play a game of spoons. The first student to collect a set of 4 cards that have the same value grabs a spoon.
