mathematics 8 geometry
Specific Curriculum Outcomes
G01 Students will be expected to draw and interpret top, front, and side views of 3-D objects composed of right rectangular prisms.
G02 Students will be expected to develop an understanding of the congruence of polygons under a transformation.
*** Note that Section 8.4A in the Nova Scotia Curriculum Companion (Transformations on a Coordinate Grid) replaces section 8.4, 8.5 and 8.6 in the Student Text.

G01 activities
- 3D Views from Jocelle Skov - Ask each student to create a shape using multi-link cubes. Next they draw the top, front and side view. Then they create other people’s shapes using their views. The original shapes stay on the teachers desk for students to check their work.
- Cliko and Architecto from Foxmind Games - Cliko and Architecto are two commercial games that get students to build structures from drawings. Cliko uses front, side and top views and Architecto uses perspective views. The challenges get increasingly difficult.

G02 Activities
- Translations Desmos Activity from Andrew Stadel - Students use an online Desmos activity to describe and execute translations in words and coordinate notation. They also perform error analysis, critiquing a classmate's mistake, and then fixing it.
- Transformations Golf from Desmos - Dan Meyer describes the transformations golf activity available online. There is a purple golf ball (a/k/a the pre-image) and the gray golf hole (a/k/a the image). Use transformations to get the golf ball in the hole. Avoid the obstacles.
- TranStar from MangaHigh - Students use transformation (reflections, rotations, dilations, translations) to navigate their ship across space (a Cartesian grid) in this online game.
