Mathematics at Work 12 Geometric Figures and Transformations
Specific Curriculum Outcomes
G02 Students will be expected to solve problems that involve: triangles, quadrilaterals and regular polygons.
G03 Students will be expected to demonstrate an understanding of transformations on a 2-D shape or a 3-D object, including: translations, rotations, reflections and dilations.
This outcome is similar to G03 from Mathematics 7.

Activities
- Get Into Shape shared by Dan Meyer - A circle will be folded into a variety of geometric shapes. This activity provides the opportunity to assess the concepts, vocabulary and knowledge of relationships between shapes. The pdf handout for this activity linked at the site.
- Representing and Combining Transformations from Mathematics Assessment Project - This lesson unit is intended to help you assess how well students are able to: Recognize and visualize transformations of 2D shapes as well as translate, reflect and rotate shapes, and combine these transformations.
- Creating Pentacubes (3D pentominoes) - Challenge your students to find all the different unique ways that 5 linking cubes can be combined. These shapes are called pentacubes. Make sure that each shape you make unique and not a transformation of a shape already made. You could start this activity with 4 cubes for an easier challenge.
